Do you understand the gospel?

“When you blow it, God still celebrates His Son in you. The litmus test of whether or not you understand the gospel is what you do when  you fail. Do you run from Him and go clean yourself up a little bit before you come back into the throne room? Or do you approach the throne of grace with confidence? If you don’t approach the throne of grace with confidence, you don’t understand the gospel.”

– Matt Chandler

About Rod Pitts

I'm a 28-year-old guy seeking to obediently go wherever God leads. I did my undergraduate work at Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, MS. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Christian Ministry and a minor in Psychology. Some things I enjoy: proclaiming the gospel, hanging out with friends, Boy Meets World, BBC's Sherlock, bacon, coffee, chapstick, theology, fruit snacks, sweet tea, chicken & waffles, and Nutella.

Amen! I have to remind myself of this often.

Same here. I have to remember that grace is always there and that he doesn’t love me any less on my worst days or any more on my best days. He sees his son in us and celebrates him regardless of whether we screw up or not.

To be honest (and I’ll try to keep this short), there were a couple of years in college that I was plagued so deeply with shame and guilt. I had a couple of guys that were there to pray for/with me and walk with me through those years. And then I heard a sermon jam from Matt Chandler (that included this very quote) one summer. God used Matt Chandler and that sermon jam (and many other things by Chandler) to really drive that guilt and shame out of my life and remind me of this glorious gospel. And I still struggle to believe it sometimes (in practice). “God, I do believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24) is a consistent prayer of mine.
